Put Recliner on your TV

Recliner is not in the Amazon or Google stores yet. TiviMate was not either, for years, and people put it on their TVs the same way: a free app called Downloader, and one short address typed with the remote.

In Downloader, type the code 8371868, or the address recliner.tv/tv.

Which TV do you have?

Not sure if it is Google TV? If the home screen has a For you tab along the top, it is.

Fire TV (Stick, Cube, Fire TV televisions)

First, which Fire TV is it?

Open Settings → My Fire TV → About and read the software version.

  • It says Fire OS. Recliner runs on it. That is the Fire TV Stick, Stick 4K, Stick 4K Max, the Cube and every television with Fire TV built in. Follow the steps below.
  • It says Vega OS (the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, and the newest Fire TV Stick HD). This Fire TV cannot run Recliner yet. Vega OS does not install Android apps, from Downloader or anywhere else.
  1. On the home screen, choose Find → Search, type Downloader, and install the orange one by AFTVnews. It is free.
  2. Open Settings → My Fire TV. If there is no Developer options, choose About and press OK on your device's name seven times, then go back.
  3. Choose Developer options → Install unknown apps → Downloader, and turn it On. (Older Fire TVs say Apps from Unknown Sources. Turn that On.)
  4. Open Downloader, select the address box, type 8371868 (or recliner.tv/tv) and choose Go.
  5. When it has downloaded, choose Install, then Open. Downloader offers to delete the file afterwards. Say yes: Recliner is installed.

Installed? Now pair it

Open Recliner on the TV and choose Set up with your phone. Point your phone's camera at the code it shows: the page that opens makes your account, or signs you in, and joins the TV to it. Setting it up for someone else? Use the email address they will keep.

Updating

Do the last step again: the same address always gives you the newest Recliner, and it installs over the old one. Your playlists, favorites and passphrase stay where they are.

Is this safe?

"Unknown sources" only lets the one app you switched on, Downloader, install things, and only when you tell it to. Recliner comes from this site and nowhere else. What it can and cannot see about you is on the privacy page.
